Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha Lakes is the kind of place where the changing seasons become part of everyday life. In the fall, the natural landscape surrounding a home becomes especially important, mature trees provide a canopy of colour, lakes reflect the changing foliage, and large windows can bring the outdoors right into the heart of the home.

From lakefront properties near Balsam Lake, Sturgeon Lake, Pigeon Lake, and Cameron Lake to wooded lots and rural properties surrounding Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon, and Omemee, the region offers an incredible variety of settings for a custom home or cottage.

We love building in Kawartha Lakes because the homes here aren't just about the house itself. They're about the setting, the lifestyle, and the memories made around it. A quiet morning overlooking the lake, a walk through the changing leaves, or an evening around the fire all become part of what makes a home here special.

Parks, Green Space & Outdoor Activities

There are countless places to experience the outdoors throughout Kawartha Lakes.

Ken Reid Conservation Area near Lindsay offers nearly 12 kilometres of trails through forests and wetlands, while Gamiing Nature Centre provides more than 7 kilometres of trails along Pigeon Lake. Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park offers a shorter walk through mature forest, and the Dunsford Nature Trail follows a 2.5-kilometre converted railway corridor through forest and wetland.

For those looking for a scenic fall drive, Kawartha Lakes Tourism's routes through Bobcaygeon, Balsam Lake, Fenelon Falls, Sturgeon Lake, and Pigeon Lake provide some of the best opportunities to experience the region's autumn colours.

Local Events & Attractions

Fall brings plenty of reasons to explore Kawartha Lakes' communities.

Spend a day in Bobcaygeon exploring Lock 32, the waterfront, local shops, and Kawartha Settlers' Village. Visit Fenelon Falls for its historic downtown, waterfront, local cafés, restaurants, and shops. In Lindsay, explore the downtown, visit the Lindsay Farmers' Market, walk along the Scugog River, or head north to Ken Reid Conservation Area.

Seasonal events such as the Lindsay Exhibition, Bobcaygeon Fall Fair, Kawartha Farmfest, and local harvest activities bring communities together throughout the season.

Schools

Families throughout Kawartha Lakes are served by schools within the Trillium Lakelands District School Board and the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, with elementary and secondary schools located throughout the region.

Communities including Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon, Omemee, and surrounding rural areas offer families the opportunity to enjoy a quieter lifestyle while remaining connected to larger communities and essential services.

Sports & Recreation

Fall is an ideal season to stay active in Kawartha Lakes. Residents and visitors can enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing, paddling, golf, community sports, conservation areas, and the region's extensive trail network.

The Victoria Rail Trail, which connects several communities throughout Kawartha Lakes, is another popular option for walking and cycling and takes on a completely different character when surrounded by autumn colour.

The Arts

Kawartha Lakes has a strong connection to local arts, heritage, and culture. Kawartha Settlers' Village in Bobcaygeon offers a glimpse into the region's history, while galleries, studios, artisan shops, community theatres, and seasonal markets can be found throughout the area's towns and villages.

Fall is also a great time to explore the region's Arts & Heritage Trail, which connects cultural experiences and attractions throughout Kawartha Lakes.

Business & Shopping

One of the best parts of exploring Kawartha Lakes in the fall is discovering the local businesses along the way.

Downtown Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, and Fenelon Falls each offer a mix of independent shops, restaurants, cafés, galleries, and services. Rural farm markets such as Holliday's Farm Fresh Vegetables, MacArthur's Pumpkin Patch, and other local producers provide seasonal produce, baked goods, pumpkins, apples, preserves, and locally made products.

It's this combination of small-town communities, local businesses, farms, lakes, and natural spaces that gives Kawartha Lakes its distinct character, and makes it such a special place to build a home.
